All three dinosaurs stomped gently and roared quietly around the house. Wait, what?
Gently and quietly? Why on earth would children be quiet when they’re acting like dinosaurs?
I know, I was thinking the same thing!
Their lungs worked fine, their feet could stomp. It appeared they chose not to.
I asked the girls why they were quiet and all three shrugged at me and kept on playing.
Scratching my head, I wondered what I was missing and thought perhaps it might have been that they didn’t have costumes.
Confused, I decided to make them some printable dinosaur masks because I couldn’t think of any other reason why they weren’t being loud. Could you?
The girls were thrilled when I placed three different dino masks in front of them. I put the masks on for them, and almost instantly, my three girls roared louder and stomped loudly around the house.
I was relieved they were acting like real dinosaurs again and I put it down to the dinosaur masks I’d made for them.
I was wrong. I’ll tell you why in a minute.

So, why were my little dinosaurs so quiet?
I asked the girls why they were so quiet before I gave them the masks. All three turned and stared at me, puzzled. I started acting out what they were doing. I felt like I was playing a game of charades.
My eldest looked at me strangely and said. ‘Oooooh! We weren’t dinosaurs.’
‘You weren’t?’ I asked confused again.
‘No, we were fairies.’
‘Angry fairies.’
