There’s no better time to get cracking (pun intended) with these Egg Grass Head crafts. Easter is right around the corner and there are so many wonderful ways to celebrate the season.
What makes this craft so special is that it combines Easter and gardening themes, which is perfect if you’re coming into spring.
Eggshell crafts usually make me guilty. Most of them require you to waste the goodness inside but with this craft, I was thrilled because I could actually save it. Watch the video to see how I did it.
It’s a fairly simple craft, with only a few materials and you’ll love making it as much as your children.

What you’ll need:
- Eggs
- Soil
- Grass seeds
- Water
- Permanent marker

Egg Grass Heads: Full Instructions
- Boil some eggs: Start with the water and eggs in a saucepan and bring it to boil. Turn the stove top off when it starts to boil and leave the eggs in the hot water for fifteen minutes.
- Once the eggs have cooled, you can chop the top of the eggs off. Keep the top egg shell if you’re making the chick egg head.
- Use a small spoon to gently scoop the egg out of the shell. Get as much of the egg as you can. I love that the egg isn’t wasted in this process.
- Draw the face on the eggshell using a permanent marker.
- Sprinkle some soil in the egg until the egg is three-quarters full.
- Then, add a good layer of grass seeds on top of that soil.
- Cover the grass seeds with a .5cm layer of soil and give it a good water.
- Water the grass head every day and keep it in the sun.
- Within three days you should start to see grass starting to shoot out of the soil and within 5-7 days a full head of grass hair will appear.
- For the bunny egg grass head, get some thin twine or ribbon and tie the grass up into two ponytails to make the ears.
