This post is a heart and mind spill.

Lately I’ve been praying a lot about a large storm called Matthew. For people who have lost loved ones, for those still in its path. Our God is far bigger than a storm, but it’s still a little scary.

Lately I’ve been learning about Holy Spirit. Who He is, and why He is given to us.

Lately I’ve been catching up on the new show This Is Us. Have you watched this yet? What do you think about it? I think it’s creative writing, definitely different.

Lately I’ve been jamming/watching Bethel’s mountainside worship. You can view it here, it’s pretty beautiful.

Lately I have loved wearing my Raven + Lily jewelry, like you see below. “Raven + Lily is committed to providing beautiful and unique modern minimalist products that are made by hand, follow fair trade standards, and honor our eco-friendly commitment.”

Lately I’ve been inspired by the words of Jonathan Edwards.

To go to heaven, fully to enjoy God, is infinitely better than the most pleasant accommodations here.

Grace is but glory begun, and glory is but grace perfected.

Lately I am loving the community I’m blessed to be in. From a church women’s retreat to small group in our home to phone conversations to written letters. People are the coolest. They are the greatest gifts of this temporary life.

Lately God has touched my afresh. And I’m heart and soul grateful.

Whoever is reading this post, I pray grace and peace and God’s favor on you. Thanks for reading. :)

Gratefulness Lately

I’ve always understood that the counterpart to apathy, discouragement, selfishness is thanksgiving. That’s where I am today. Longing for lightheartedness and freedom, so I give thanks.

Lately, I’m thankful for:

  • rain to nourish the earth (hopefully bringing cooler weather with it)
  • a husband who loves me in spite of my moods
  • a group of believers to meet with once a week; to talk, reflect, question, challenge, encourage
  • a sister who makes me laugh
  • a roof over my head
  • upbeat music to perk up any stressful day
  • scripture to turn to when I’m stuck, bummed, selfish, etc
  • God’s mercy that embraces me every morning
  • a [Starbucks] caffeine boost on tired mornings
  • the reality that God is not surprised by any of the madness in the world today; He is Sovereign
  • fun people to work with
  • a cell phone to communicate with friends all over the state
  • the fact that my only niece is getting baptized this weekend
  • parents who love and support us
  • a best friend who never judges me when I’m being ridiculous
  • a job that I enjoy
  • the fact that October is almost here! I’m ready for bonfires and soups and boots.
  • the ability to go for a jog
  • Jesus, just Jesus
  • a husband I love to laugh and hang out with
  • a Heavenly Father who welcomes this prodigal daughter, over and over again
  • a fun, eventful Fall season filled with friends and family
  • the red and orange leaves beginning to make an appearance

Happy Tuesday, my friends.

List of Ten #2

“But it seemed to me that this was the way we all lived: full to the brim with gratitude and joy one day, wrecked on the rocks the next. Finding the balance between the two was the art and the salvation.” — Elizabeth Berg

Life is unpredictable. It can be fickle, it can seem empty, it can feel full. No two days are the same. This life is temporal, and we’re passing through. I like the above quote, touching on both joy and trial. Because in this world are both, and we can’t live believing otherwise.

Enter the hope of Christ. In the gratitude and in the rocks, whether we feel it or not, there is hope to be had. And we can have it TODAY.

10 things that help me hope today:

1. The special love of my husband, when I’m perky or when I’m down.

2. Stomach hurting laughter at silly things

3. Driving into the sunrise to get to work

4. A boss who genuinely wishes you better when you feel sick

5. Being asked to draw for a project at work

6. A touching handwritten response from a wise elderly mentor

7. New, lovely friendships blooming

8. Brainstorming gifts to give family for birthdays

9. Sprinkling extra cinnamon on already apple cinnamon-y muffins

10. Throwback tunes via Pandora to perk up any mood
